Spar Southern Africa reassures clients after FMD confusion

Spar Southern Africa confirms that a notice was temporarily displayed at the independently owned SuperSpar Maerua store in Namibia regarding the limited availability of certain dairy products.

We would like to clarify that Spar has not been advised of any foot-and-mouth disease outbreak affecting milk supply within Namibia.

All milk and dairy products sold through our stores are subject to strict food safety and quality standards and are sourced from approved suppliers who comply fully with applicable veterinary and regulatory requirements.

From time to time, regional supply constraints may impact the availability of specific products on shelf. These can arise due to a range of factors within the broader Southern African su

pply chain, including precautionary animal-health controls implemented by authorities in the region.

The in-store notice did not reflect Spar Southern Africa’s official position and has since been removed. We are engaging internally to ensure that all customer communication is accurate, appropriate and aligned with guidance from the relevant authorities.

We apologise for any inconvenience or concern this may have caused and reassure our customers that Spar continues to work closely with suppliers and regulators to ensure a safe, reliable and consistent supply of quality products. - Media Release - Mpudi Maubane, National PR, Communications & Sponsorship Manager at The Spar Group
