NFCPT board urged to expand access to affordable fish

Deputy agriculture minister Ruthy Masake has urged the newly appointed board of trustees of the Namibian Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) to establish at least three community fish markets to improve access to affordable fish across Namibia.

Speaking at the board’s inauguration in Windhoek on Wednesday, Masake said the markets should target underserved communities and be developed in consultation with regional councils, local authorities and other stakeholders.

She said the initiative could improve nutrition and food security while creating jobs and stimulating local economic activity.

Masake also called on the board to strengthen corporate governance, ensure responsible management of public resources, improve distribution net

works and align the trust’s strategy with national development priorities.

She said the NFCPT’s success should be measured by its impact on ordinary Namibians, particularly through improved access to affordable fish and stronger food and nutrition security.
