Champion of Champions leads Gobabis small stock results

The small-stock section of the Gobabis Agricultural Show again highlighted the importance of the sector to Namibia’s agricultural industry, with breeders competing for championship titles across several breeds.

The Gobabis Agricultural Show took place from 24 to 26 September. As in previous years, it brought together agriculture, livestock farming, business, sport and community activities.

For more than 60 years, the show has served as a meeting place for farmers, businesses and the Omaheke community, with livestock among its main attractions.

In the small-stock section, breeders competed across several breeds, with the top animals earning championship honours.

The highest honour in the small-stock section went to Hendrik Prinsloo of Titan Five Stud.

His Van Rooy ram was named Interbreed Champion Ram before going on to win the Champion of Champions title.

The ram was selected as the overall winner among the respective breed champions, marking one of the highlights of the small-stock competition.

Prinsloo also won the Van Rooy Ewe and Van Rooy Ram titles, making it a successful show for Titan Five Stud.

Pretorius wins with Veldmaster ewe

Barbara Pretorius also performed strongly, winning the Interbreed Champion Ewe title with her Veldmaster ewe.

The ewe was also named Veldmaster Champion Ewe, while Bertie van Zyl won the Veldmaster Champion Ram title.

The results reflected the range of breeds represented in the small-stock section, with breeders competing for recognition across the different classes.

Champions across the breeds

In the Damara section, Blahr Tjikuzu of Kleinbegin Boerdery won the Champion Damara Ewe title, while Douw Schoonbee of Schoonbee Damaraskaap Stud took the Damara Ram title.

The Persian titles went to Lindie Pretorius of Poplap Persies, who won both the Persian Ewe and Persian Ram championships.

In the Boer Goat section, Bertus Pretorius of Wendelstein Boerbokke won the Boer Goat Ewe championship.

The Kalahari Red Ram championship went to Lara Ferreira of Sirocco Kalahari Red.

Small stock remains a key attraction

The results formed part of the broader agricultural programme at the Gobabis Show. Alongside livestock and agricultural exhibitions, the 2026 event included sport and other community activities, with the inaugural Thorn Fifty endurance race and a new volleyball tournament among the additions this year.

For the agricultural community, however, livestock in the show ring remains a central part of the event.

Gobabis Show chairman Danie Opperman said before the show that the animals were an important attraction, with breeders putting considerable effort into preparing them for competition.

The small-stock results provided another showcase for breeders and the animals they had prepared for the show ring, while highlighting the role the sector continues to play in Namibia’s agricultural landscape.
